September 2007 Newsletter
Hi everyone,
In line with our commitment to update everyone twice a year regarding the progress and developments regarding the Theo Jackson Scholarship Fund, herewith a brief update for the second half of 2007.
Since my last email in May (which I have attached for your reference) we have once again been blessed with some very generous donations. Although every contribution, no matter how small, is appreciated, I would like to highlight the following contributions received in the past few months:
Cadiz Bank: R10,000
Bruce Burman: R 6,000
Ryan Proudfoot: R 5,000
Class of 62,63 and 64: Individuals from these years are clubbing together with the eventual aim of sponsoring one boy per year
In addition to the above, we have also been very fortunate in receiving funding from a number of companies and trusts who have agreed to sponsor individual boys for their entire high school career. This equates to a commitment in excess of R160,000 per company / trust over the five year period. The following organizations will now each be sponsoring a boy by 2008:
Impala Platinum
Deutsche Bank Foundation
Pim Goldby Charitable Trust (administered by KPMG)
Action Sports and Insurance Solutions
Ritchie Trust (administered by BDO)
As a result of the above contributions as well as those of over 60 individuals who contribute via their monthly debit orders, we will now be sponsoring SEVEN boys in 2008 including FIVE new boys who will enter Grade 8 (Std 6). The 5 new boys were selected after an extensive interview process from a number of applicants - some of the boys are orphans living in state run homes whilst others live with a grandparent or guardian. All of them have gone through significant hardships in their lives, are worthy applicants of the Scholarship and are extremely grateful to be given this chance in life.
If you remember, the short term aim of the fund was to sponsor one child with the medium term aim being to sponsor one boy per year (i.e. five scholarship pupils at any one time). It is therefore fantastic that in little over a year we have been able to exceed our medium term aim and I am hopeful that with continued hard work and generous contributions from companies and individuals we will be able to continue exceeding our objectives.
Fundraising Golf Day
In March 2007 we will be holding our 2nd Annual Fundraising Golf Day at Royal JHB and Kensington. Those of you who attended last year’s event will remember that it was a huge success with a full field, great prizes and almost R100,000 being raised. As a result, as promised, we have decided to extend the golf day to BOTH courses and a field of 250 golfers.
A separate email will follow shortly regarding the golf day but in the interim, should you wish to book a fourball (cost = R1,500) or donate prizes, please let me know via email.
Thanks once again to all of you for your continued support of the Theo Jackson Scholarship Fund.
Kind regards,
Dale
