January 2008 Newsletter
Hi everyone,
I trust that 2008 has begun well for you all and that it is going to be a great year !!
Everyone on this particular mailing list is either a direct financial contributor to the Theo Jackson Scholarship or has expressed a wish to donate money.
As such, I thought you may be interested in taking a look at the attached letters each of the six scholarship boys wrote a couple of weeks ago to you, the people who have made their dreams of getting a decent, quality education a reality.
Admittedly, some of the letters are a little bit “informal” and there appears a fair amount of work for the Jeppe English department to do (!!!) but at least they are from the heart and it is plainly evident what this opportunity that you have provided means to these boys.
We are in the process of discussing a sponsorship of a 7th pupil who has just been enrolled in Grade 9 and whose father passed away suddenly in December last year and whose mother is unemployed. This boy (Katlego) is the nephew of Bafana Nhleko, a previous vice Head Boy and current teacher at the school who epitomizes the type of men we hope these boys will grow into. Hopefully we will be able to find the necessary funding to sponsor Katlego !!
Thank you to all of you who attended the Jake White Book Launch on the 6th December as guests of the Theo Jackson Scholarship – it was great to see so many of you and it was a really enjoyable occasion !
Lastly, please remember that the Annual Theo Jackson Scholarship Fundraising Golf Day is being held this year on Friday 18th April at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington East Course. Last year was a superb day with over R100,000 being raised and with Sharon Elmes once again involved in the organization thereof, it is sure to be a repeat of last year’s success.
We already have 21 of a possible 30 fourballs confirmed for the day (We are trying to book half of the West course but are awaiting confirmation from Royal). If you are interested in playing, sponsoring a hole or providing prizes, please let me know via email or n my cell. All of the sponsored boys will be there so even if you are not playing it will be a god opportunity for you to meet them.
Thank you for your continued interest in, and support of, the Theo Jackson Scholarship !!
Keep well and see you all soon,
Dale
